JOO MONG KOREAN RESTAURANT

Fancy an authentic Korean food here at Joo Mong Restaurant located at General Luna corner Don Pedro, Makati City, Makati near P Burgos Ave.

We’ve tried a lot of korean restos around the area but so far this is the best we’ve ever had. Our staple food here is their Spicy beef soup, pork and Beef Galbi and homemade Kimchi!!

Of course eating in an authentic Korean Restaurant will never be complete without their ban chan (side dishes). They vary depending on their availability but my favorite would be their bean sprouts, anchovies, mini pancake, tofu, mussels and kimchi!

Their price ranges from 200-400 which is really good for 2 to 3 persons.

also perfect for this weather is Jumong’s Spicy Beef Soup ; )

UKOKKEI RAMEN RON

I discovered Ukokkei Ramen Ron by accident. I frequent the Tesoro bldg, where it is situated at least twice a month for IPL sessions with Chiqui. On our 3rd session, I came across a tweet by a certain celebrity that its the best ramen she’s ever tried! I then did my research about the resto only to find out its the ramen bar at the Ground floor.

I ordered their famous ‘limited edition’ Tan Tan Men Ramen , limited because I heard they only make around 10 bowls of this and they inly serve this for dinner. It is actually made of spicy sesame soup based with ground pork and chopped scallions. The creamy and nutty taste of sesame paste goes well with the spicy taste and the ‘al dente’ noodles. Perfect for a rainy weather comfort food : )

We also had gyoza, which is a perfect compliment for their ramen. I like how it was actually burnt outside but still juicy on the inside. Love their gyoza sauce!! perfect sour taste add in lots of chili pepper and oil.

My friend on the other hand ordered the Ukkokei Shoyu Chashu, a light and flavorful soy based ramen with pork belly slices and lots of scallions. It is not oily unlike the Tan Tan Men Ramen, but my friend and I prefers the Tan Tan Men over this.

No Takeouts allowed here you need to enjoy the authentic ramen taste inside the restaurant.

I will definitely go back here!! : ))

Ukokkei Ramen Ron is located at Unit 1-2, Upper G/F, Tesoro Building, 822 A. Arnaiz Avenue (formerly Pasay Road), Makati City, Philippines.

Photo 8 Apr CAB CAFE

I was craving for something sweet..
Dale decided to go to Brgy Kapitolyo, which is now famous for great eats for foodies like us : )) We’ve tried Rub Ribs and Bbq, Mad Mark’s, Poco Deli, Three Sisters and Charlie’s Grind and Grill. Its time for us to try CAB CAFE! Its the metro manila branch of Bacolod’s famous Bob’s Cafe.

We first ordered cappucino hot coffee paired with moist chocolate cake. Love how their cappucino tasted more of an espresso rather than the milk : ) It’s taste can compete with starbucks or other famous coffee chains. Heard their Cafe Mocha is also a must try. I’ll save that for another visit.

Perfect partner with coffee is a cake! I dont have a sweet tooth so I dont like desserts that are too sweet. Their chocolate cake is really moist, has a rich dark chocolate frosting on the outside and caramel in the middle but surprisingly, the cake is not too sweet. Satisfied chocolate cake craving! check!

Another favorite is their Mango Pavlova.. Its actually a sansrival, with a generous slivers of almonds, sweet chunks of mangoes and homemade whipped cream (reminds me of ala creme whipped creme in pampanga) Sorry guys, but i prefer this pavlova over mango bravo!

Savory dishes must try is their Alfredo Pizza. A thin crust pizza with alfredo sauce, bacon bits and lots of parmesan cheese on top. It’s like eating a pasta alfredo in pizza form : )) Cab Cafe’s Pizza is actually light, I think I can consume half of the whole pizza serving. Its crust is freshly baked in their brick oven..crunchy and not oily! : )

Cab Cafe also offers sandwiches, pasta, and rice dishes on their menu.
Can’t wait to try their tinapa and salted egg pasta, japanese cotton cheesecake, and pizza negrense on our next visit soon! : ))

CAB Cafe is located at 18 East Capitol Drive, Kapitolyo, Pasig City.

Photo 5 Mar 5 notes YABU: House of Katsu
Been dying to try out this resto for the past few months. Its the first authentic Katsu restaurant in the Philippines situated at the Atrium in Megamall. They have different types of pork depending on its tenderness and amount of fat attached to it! And did you know that there’s such thing as the ‘Kobe beef of pork’?! Yes its the Berkshire Black Pig!
“Berkshire pork, prized for juiciness, flavour and tenderness, is pink-hued and heavily marbled. Its high fat content makes it suitable for long cooking and high-temperature cooking” - Wikipedia
But we just ordered Hire and Seafood Katsu Set and Rosu Katsudon : ) Both meal consists of a bowl of japanese rice, miso soup, bottomless shredded cabbage, pickled ginger and cucumber and fruit slices. Here’s the Fun part! you get unlimited serving of their yummy Katsu sauce and shredded cabbage : )) For the cabbage: you have 2 dressings to choose from: vinaigrette and sesame which are readily available on your table with other condiments. For Katsu sauce: You’ll be given a sauce bowl with toasted sesame seeds and a pestle. Simply grind the sesame seeds and pour the katsu sauce then mix! Now your ready for dipping!
The utmost test would be on their Katsu (cutlet) serving. Hire and Seafood Katsu is a mixture of breaded pork cutlet, cream dory fish and shrimp. Their pork and fish cutlet are crispy on the outside but still succulent on the inside. The secret lies with its quality, fresh ingredients and the method of cooking. Its fried but its not oily… get it? I just didn’t like how the shrimp was made. It tasted like more of the batter and less of the meat.
The Katsudon Set I must say, is better than any Donburi meal I’ve tried in other Japanese restaurant. The pork cutlet is thick, tender and juicy. Yabu is very generous in serving meat unlike others who will serve you with lots of rice underneath and less on meat.
I was a bit disappointed though with the array of food on their menu. I expected a typical Japanese menu with sushi, sashimi, tempura and donburi dishes. But hey, that’s why its called an authentic Katsu place not a japanese resto so i should expect more of their deep fried cutlets!! Yes everything on their menu is deep fried : )) So brace yourselves with the ultimate UMAY! experience after eating. Good thing they have fruit slices and shredded cabbage to balance everything.
KUDOS to their staff who were very attentive and courteous. We will surely be back for another authentic KATSU experience : )

Photo 5 Mar MAD ABOUT SANDWICHES

Watching Food Channel and Man vs Food makes us drool over those massive steaks and sandwiches. Drool no more coz you can now have them at this hole in the wall resto called Mad Marks Man Sandwich and Frozen Desserts located at 23 East Capitolyo Drive, Brgy. Kapitolyo, Pasig City.

We tried their The Man Sandwich which is good for actually 2 persons. It has a generous serving of angus beef and chunks of chicken and lots of cheese on top. YUMMY!!

Another dish on our list is their Cream Dory with Anchovy Sauce it has a perfect combination of creamy tasting fish, the saltiness of anchovy sauce plus a hefty serving of their rice. The dish though can be improved by reducing the saltiness and its oiliness.

Next is their Zing and Fries which is actually a typical buffalong wings and fries. We still prefer buffalo wings of Charlie’s Grind and Grill.

And for the dessert dont miss out to try their home made ice cream. My personal favorite is their Mandheling Macchiato : )) Imagine a Frappucino made into ice cream. Sugar level is perfect not too sweet! For chocolate lovers, try their Javan Hot Chocolate it has an intense and deep chocolate flavor but i find it sweet (disclaimer: i dont have a sweet tooth)

Their price ranges from 100 - 300. Serving size is good for sharing.
